Lean burn technologies have existed in industrial engines since the 1970s to reduce NOx formation in the combustion process without using catalytic converters. This combustion method has satisfied all of the EPA regulations for industrial engines. The application to the automotive sector has been unsuccessful until now. Ultra Lean Burn technologies improve fuel mileage, reduce emissions, and allow the use of virtually any fuel while improving engine efficiency using a different type of electrical discharge at the gap of a normal spark plug. Adopting this technology to new automobiles will enable manufacturers to meet CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) regulations that have resulted in hundreds of million-dollar fines paid by OEMs. This technology is no longer a science project but an application project.

To-date we have demonstrated fuel mileage improvements exceeding 84 MPG in our Cadillac CTS test vehicle. Cold start doesn't require any fuel enrichment. Multiple fuel types can be used in the same fuel system. This system is electronic and doesn't require pre-combustion processes. Air fuel ratios in excess of 50:1.
While the doubling or tripling of the fuel mileage in automotive applications has many benefits, the complimentary reduction in air pollution provides a clear path towards reducing global warming.
Formula 1 racing is using lean burn combustion to improve fuel mileage to reduce pit stops. The pre-combustion technology, used in the industrial engines, becomes complicated in automobile applications.
The original intentions of lean burn combustion, as presented in the 1970's by some automobile manufacturers, was to reduce hydrocarbons. However it also increased NOx. The industrial engine market was able to operate leaner than the automobile engines could, which reduced HC, CO, and NOx. We have the automotive solution.
